Public Comment in Support of the Proposed Rule on Federal Financial Assistance

Thank you for the opportunity to submit this public comment in support of the Office of Management and Budget’s proposed rule on Federal Financial Assistance. This comment is submitted on behalf of taxpayers and concerned citizens who support greater transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship of taxpayer-funded programs.

Federal grants and assistance programs distribute hundreds of billions of taxpayer dollars each year. Given the enormous amount of public money involved, taxpayers have a strong interest in ensuring that these funds are administered with transparency, accountability, and proper oversight. Americans deserve confidence that federal dollars are spent lawfully, efficiently, and for their intended purposes.

The proposed rule represents an important step toward strengthening public confidence in federal spending by improving standards for the administration and oversight of federal financial assistance. Americans deserve assurance that federal funds are being used for their intended purposes, that recipients are held accountable for results, and that agencies have clear tools to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse.

As taxpayers and concerned citizens, we support efforts to:

• Strengthen accountability for recipients of federal financial assistance;
• Improve transparency regarding how taxpayer funds are spent;
• Ensure that federal dollars are used consistently with congressional intent and statutory requirements;
• Promote effective stewardship of public resources;
• Increase public trust in federal grant-making and assistance programs;
• Provide clear, consistent standards for agencies and funding recipients;
• Protect taxpayers by improving oversight and reducing opportunities for waste, fraud, and abuse.

At a time when Americans are demanding greater accountability from government, reforms that improve transparency and responsible management of federal financial assistance are both necessary and appropriate. Taxpayers have a right to know how their money is being spent and whether federal programs are achieving their intended goals.

Strong oversight and clear standards, which this proposed rule would provide, help ensure that federal financial assistance is administered responsibly and in accordance with the law. The proposed rule advances President Trump’s objectives of promoting greater transparency, consistency, and accountability throughout the federal financial assistance process.

For these reasons, we strongly support the proposed rule and encourage the Office of Management and Budget to finalize it without delay.
